Da'Vine Joy Randolph, a Philadelphia native, won Best Supporting Actress — yet again — for "The Holdovers." She previously won the title at the Critics’ Choice Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards, the New York Film Critics Circle, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Golden Globes, and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards.
Randolph was voted on by the Academy above Emily Blunt in “Oppenheimer,” Danielle Brooks from “The Color Purple,” America Ferrera in “Barbie", and Jodie Foster from “Nyad".
She previously was nominated for a Tony Award in 2012 for “Ghost The Musical”, but if you're not a theater buff or filmgoer, you might probably recognize her from “Empire” and “Only Murders in the Building.”
Before she became this award-winning/nominated actress on the stage, and the big and small screens, Randolph notably spent her youth growing up in the Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia before moving to Hershey. She is also a graduate of the Capitol Area School for the Arts in Harrisburg. She went on to study classical voice and opera at Temple University before moving out of the state for her master's at Yale School of Drama, and then she moved out of the country to attend the British American Drama Academy after spending a summer studying Shakespeare at the University of Oxford.
Following her win, the star was cheered by her alma mater, CASA, and the PA Governor Josh Shapiro.
